Overview
This workshop is designed to help staff and residents increase their knowledge of dementia. Staff and residents will also learn what is it like to see the world through the eyes of person with dementia, dementia related changes and principles to bear in mind for communicating with respect and dignity and changed behaviour and the concept of behaviour communicating needs.
Learning objectives
- Answer the question “what is dementia?”
- Understand some basics for how the brain works.
- Appreciate how dementia may affect day-to-day functions.
- Understand how a diagnosis of dementia may affect a person’s ability to communicate.
- Be aware of the experiences of living with dementia, from the point of view of the person living with the condition.
- Explain the concept of changed behaviour in dementia.
- Describe the impact of changed behaviour on the person experiencing them.
