Senior Web Developer

We are looking for a Senior Web Developer to provide senior Expertise and leadership to Dementia Training Australia's (DTA) web development services. You will be responsible for oversight, analysis, development and maintenance of business systems, applications and the technologies that underpin operational requirements.

 

You will develop and implement software solutions that enable DTA to deliver and report on web-based services that are both efficient and secure, as contracted under agreed business KPIs.

 

The position works with front and backend environments, updating WordPress websites, developing new sites from scratch, and working within existing web platforms.

 

A hands-on role involved in codesign, development, documentation and testing of DTA’s online systems, the Senior Developer manages task assignment and provides supervision and mentoring to junior developers and other members of staff within the IT portfolio.

Description

Key Responsibilities Include:

  1. Design, build and maintain server-side code, RESTful API's, complex data flows, and database interfaces for an enterprise-scale PHP application.
  2. Build and maintain intergrations with external services (authentication Providers, LMS platforms, transactional email, payment gateways, query/job systems).
  3. Contribute across frontend (JavaScript, HTML, PostCSS, esbuild) and backend, ensuring quality accessibility and performance.
  4. Manage application-level configuration and updates of the LEMP stack, contribute to deployment pipelines and work with DTA's managed services providers on infrastructure requirements and production incidents.
  5. Investigate performance issues and contribute to initiatives that optimise efficiency, resilience and security posture
  6. Contribute to technical standards, architectural decisions and DTA's broader IT strategy alongside other senior developers - including emerging areas of AI-assisted features.
  7. Participate in code reviews, knowledge sharing, and Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives)
  8. Help plan and scope work, provide effort estimates, and report progress to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  9. Engage directly with stakeholders (health professionals, educators, government and industry partners) to gather requirements and demonstrate progress.
  10. Liase with external vendors, contractors and integration partners as needed.
  11. Produce clear technical resources, policies and procedures to support system adoption.

Requirements

Selection Criteria:

  • Minimum 5 years’ professional experience with PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, HTML/CSS and Linux, including at least 2 years in a senior and technical ownership capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience architecting, delivering and operating production web applications on a LEMP stack.
  • Experience contributing to technical direction within a development team.
  • Experience engaging with diverse stakeholders (health professionals, educators, government and industry partners) to deliver project requirements.
  • Experience contributing to technical direction within a development team.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills, the ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent demonstrable experience.
