Skills and Training Guidelines for Specialist Dementia Care Program Staff

People residing within Specialist Dementia Care Program units need highly specialised, person-centred care. The program ensures staff are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide the best quality care to people living with dementia. 

These guidelines were created through a consultation process with staff working in Specialist Dementia Care Program units; making it simple and easy for staff to choose and implement the right training pathway. 

Use these guidelines to:

  • identify knowledge and skill gaps in your teams
  • create learning goals and training plans for the unit
  • inform and prioritise training programs 
  • assist with job descriptions or recruitment and selection criteria
  • support on-boarding and orientation of new staff
