Learning Outcomes
Describe changed behaviour and current evidence-based recommendations to support a person living with dementia who is experiencing changed behaviour; Utilise Dementia Training Australia (DTA) resources to assist with minimising the use of antipsychotic medications for changed behaviour; Identify beneficial and detrimental effects associated with antipsychotic medications when used for changed behaviour; Introduce and use DTA resources when antipsychotic medications are considered for changed behaviour; Use a case study to demonstrate how to apply these resources; Provide appropriate support for a person living with dementia experiencing changed behaviour; Provide information regarding current recommendations for antipsychotic medication use when all other non-pharmacological strategies have been unsuccessful; contribute to the review and monitoring process once a person is commenced on antipsychotic medications
