This course equips General Practitioners with the knowledge and practical frameworks to identify, assess, and understand dementia and cognitive impairment, supporting accurate diagnosis and person-centred care across Australia.
Overview
In this course, you will learn about dementia as a syndrome and its impact on Australia, how to recognise dementia and cognitive impairment, and how it progresses over time. You will also have access to a framework to assist you with dementia diagnosis in practice.
Target Audience
This course is for General Practitioners (GPs) working in both primary and residential aged care. It is also suitable for GP Registrars and other medical professionals with an interest in dementia. It provides an overview of dementia and its diagnosis by a GP over four modules:
- Dementia – A Story of Words and Numbers
- Is it Normal Ageing or Dementia?
- Dementia is More Than a Memory Problem
- Part 1: Diagnosing Dementia – DSM V in Action
Part 2: Diagnosing Dementia – Beyond History
