Home Matters – Rethinking Aged Care Design | Webinar 5 – Principle 3: Access the Outdoors
By Department of Health, Disability and Ageing
We collaborated with Department of Health, Disability and Ageing to host an 8-part series designed to help aged care providers and designers understand and apply the National Aged Care Design Principles and Guidelines. This series brings together the Australian community, aged care providers, designers, architects and subject matter experts to share evidence-based insights, lived experience and practical strategies for improving care environments. Home Matters offers valuable insights for older people, families, and carers on what good design looks like when choosing an aged care home, whilst supporting meaningful connection with family and community and helping create culturally safe aged care environments.
The guidelines are structured around 4 principles and aim to:
Help older people stay independent as they age
Create familiar, home-like spaces that are also safe places to work
Provide easy access to the outdoors
Support connection with community.
Learning Outcomes
In this fifth webinar in the series, you will learn about:
- supporting people seeing, accessing and spending time outdoors
- barriers for older people accessing the outdoors
- what well-designed outdoor spaces looks like.
