About this Module
This module HAS FOUR sections:

Living with dementia
- This introductory section briefly recaps what is dementia and provides a snapshot of two same-sex couples' response to living with dementia.

Health impacts
- We provide an overview of some of the impacts on the health and wellbeing of older LGBTI people that a lifetime of discrimination can have.

Considerations for care
- This section describes some specific considerations and assistance that transgender people may require and also considers the importance of being aware of the person's wishes and consulting with their 'family of choice'.

Disclosure and identity concealment
- Understanding the reasons for reluctance to disclose sexual orientation, gender identity or intersex status to service providers and the personal and emotional costs this may have for the person. Issues around privacy and confidentiality are also discussed.

- Increase awareness of LGBTI health and wellbeing issues.
- Explain the considerations for providing care for LGBTI people.
- Increase awareness of dementia and how it may affect LGBTI people.

Acknowledgements
The Caring for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) people with dementia online course was originally developed by the Dementia Training Study Centres (South Australia) with Dementia Australia in 2016. The course was updated in 2018 and again in 2022 following reviews by LGBTIQ+ Health Australia and Dementia Training Australia.
If your organisation achieves the formal Rainbow Tick Accreditation, it will be listed on a national register as an LGBTI-inclusive organisation.
Dementia Training Australia is supported by funding from the Australian Government under the Dementia and Aged Care Services Fund.
