About this Module
Have you ever felt overwhelmed when a person living with dementia’s behaviour escalates and they become distressed, frustrated, angry and aggressive towards you or others. It can be difficult to know what to do to help them. Sometimes it feels like what you do only makes their behaviour more severe. This can be distressing for both the person living with dementia and you. In this short session, we'll learn about why these behaviour changes happen, the impact of your communication on the person and more helpful communication strategies you can use to avoid escalation. By understanding what's going on, we can help to reduce distress for both the person and you.Learning Outcomes
After completing this module, professional staff and family carers will be able to:
- Understand the impact of dementia on a person’s behaviour.
- Understand the role and impact of your communication on the behaviour of a person living with dementia.
- Identify effective communication strategies to prevent severe behaviour change in a person living with dementia.
