About this Program
In this course, you will learn about dementia as a syndrome and its impact on Australia, how to recognise dementia and cognitive impairment, and how it progresses over time. You will also have access to a framework to assist you with dementia diagnosis in practice. nnThis course is for General Practitioners (GPs) working in both primary and residential aged care. It is also suitable for GP Registrars and other medical professionals with an interest in dementia. nnIt provides an overview of dementia and its diagnosis by a GP over four modules: nn1. After completing this course, you should be able to:
- Explain what dementia is and its impact across Australia
- Recognise features of dementia and cognitive impairment
- Explain the trajectory of dementia and cognitive impairment
- Apply the Domains Framework to take history of people who may present with impaired cognition
- Apply the Inclusion and Exclusion criteria frameworks in assessing patients for a possible diagnosis of Alzheimer's Dementia
- Explain the range of cognitive assessment tools and their different uses
