Suitable For: Individuals working in residential, community aged care and multi-purpose services in regional, rural and remote parts of Australia. DK2A is not currently available to acute or primary care workers, or to organisations that do not receive Australian Government aged care funding.

Course Duration:

Up to 5 month program, including:

  • 2-day face-to-face workshop in selected regional or rural locations
  • 6 weeks of virtual learning (2 hours per week)
  • 3 hours of self-paced eLearning
  • Completion of a project (approx. 18 hours)
  • Online meetings with a dedicated mentor
  • Joining a community of practice session

Learn More About This Program

The Dementia Knowledge to Action Program: Rural and Remote Edition develops participants to become Dementia Guides, who can lead, coach, and influence within their care settings in rural and remote communities. This program includes face-to-face workshops as well as virtual classrooms. Participants are guided by a dedicated mentor to support planning and implementation of a care improvement project in the workplace.

To harness the best value from this program we ask that an organisational decision maker meets with the DTA Program intakes team. Program readiness as well as how to select the best candidate for the program will be explored.

To be eligible for this program, candidates must be nominated by their organisation. They need to be:

  • Working frontline (or with staff working at the front line of care) in residential or community aged care or multi-purpose services in Australia
  • Knowledgeable about dementia
  • Have at least 2 years experience in supporting people living with dementia
  • Currently work in a regional, rural or remote location, as defined by the 2023 Modified Monash Model geographical classification system. Eligible classifications are MMM2 – MMM7. You can check your classification here
  • Dementia Training Australia is funded to provide free training and education to organisations that receive Australian Government aged care funding.
  • DK2A is not currently available to acute or primary care workers, or to organisations that do not receive Australian Government aged care funding.
Care Improvement Project Show this section

Dementia Guides will identify an opportunity to enhance dementia care in their care setting.

Throughout the program they will be guided to plan, implement and complete a care improvement project.

Certificate of Completion Show this section

A Certificate of Completion is awarded upon successful completion of the program, whereby participants will become certified Dementia Guides.
