Learning Outcomes
After completing this course, staff should be able to:
Answer the question "What is dementia?"
Describe some basics for how the brain works
Appreciate how dementia may affect day-to-day functions
Identify regions of the brain affected by dementia
Identify common symptoms of Alzheimer's Disease, vascular dementia, frontotemporal dementia, and Dementia with Lewy Bodies that may affect day-to-day functions
Recognise the experiences of living with dementia, from the point of view of the person living with the condition
Define 'person-centred' support and care
Describe how a diagnosis of dementia may affect a person's ability to communicate
Describe the MESSAGE set of 7 communication strategies as one approach to supporting a person with dementia
