About this Module
This module explores the role benzodiazepines and other sedatives play in supporting a person with dementia experiencing a responsive behaviour. Throughout this module you will learn to balance the risks and benefits of using benzodiazepines and other sedatives in people living with dementia, and explore the current guidelines to support future prescribing if deemed necessary.Learning Outcomes
After completing this module, staff should be able to:
- Describe the role of benzodiazepines and other sedatives in supporting a person with dementia experiencing a responsive behaviour.
- Recognise the risks that benzodiazepines and other sedatives carry when used in people with dementia and identify common adverse effects.
- Identify the indications which benzodiazepines may be prescribed for.
